Program Objective
Helping our kids to excel in sport
This Program aims to assist young Queensland athletes who have competed at a State sporting championship or State school championship.
Eligibility
Applicants eligible for support are those who:
- have competed at a Queensland State Championship (
PDF 198 kB) or Queensland State School Championship ( PDF 130 kB) within the last 6 months;
- are residents of Queensland for more than 12 months preceding the event;
- are under the age of 18 at the start of the event;
- reside more than 300km radial distance from the event location for the one-way trip (to check distances go to www.ga.gov.au/map/names/distance.jsp);
- have their participation at the Queensland State Championship confirmed by their local club, relevant regional or State sporting organisation; or have their participation at a Queensland State School Championship confirmed by their School Registrar or Principal; and
- do not hold a current Queensland Academy of Sport Scholarship (Tier 1-4).
Scope of financial assistance
- Financial assistance of $200 is available to assist with the cost of travel and accommodation for the eligible event.
- A list of the eligible events, as nominated by Queensland School Sport Unit or the relevant State Sporting Organisation, is published under the "Eligibility" section above.
- Funding is not available for national and international sporting events.
- Athletes are only eligible to receive financial assistance once every two years from the date the application was received by the Department of Sport and Recreation.
- Lodging an application does not guarantee funding.
- Applications will not be considered before an event. As the funding is provided retrospectively, applicants are required to use their own resources to travel to events.
How to apply
- You apply to the Department after attending the eligible event.
- Each application must be endorsed by the athlete's parent or guardian and participation at the event confirmed by the relevant organisation (download Application Form PDF 168 kB).
- Applicants will receive written notification of the outcome of their application.
- If successful, you will be paid by electronic funds transfer.
